Blitz Attend DBA's Street Faire

Thursday, May 19th - Join select Bakersfield Blitz players and the Bombshellz, the Blitz dance team, as they attend the Bakersfield Downtown Business Association's monthly Street Faire from 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. The Blitz Football Toss will be there to entertain fans young and old as well. The team will be located on Chester Avenue between 20th Street and 21st Street on the West side of Chester. For more information about the Street Faire contact the DBA office at 325-5892.

Friday, May 20th - Bakersfield Sports Entertainment's Director of Community Relations & Development John Ayre will be at the Buena Vista School's Celebrity Reader/Career Day beginning at 9:00 a.m. Ayre will be discussing the importance of education as well as his career in sports. Buena Vista School is located at 6547 Buena Vista Road on the corner of Panama Road and Buena Vista.

Friday, May 20th - Select Blitz players will be celebrity judges at Chipman Jr. High School's Oral Language Contest beginning at 8:00 p.m. Players will be judging students as they recite famous speeches and poems. The students will be judged on their knowledge of the subject, tone, presentation, their background knowledge of the subject, as well as knowledge of the author. Chipman Jr. High is located at 2905 Eissler Street in Bakersfield.

Friday, May 20th - Join the Bakersfield Blitz as they battle the San Diego Riptide when KGET-TV 17 & 98.5 The Fox host the second annual Foam Football Fling and Foam Helmet Giveaway. The first 2,000 children, 12 & under will receive a Blitz Foam Football Helmet, plus all fans are encouraged to bring a foam football or other type of foam ball to be thrown onto the field when the Blitz scores its first touchdown. All balls will be collected and donated to the Police Activities League and other local children's charities. Friday is also Blitz Summer Excellence Program Night. The program rewards students for their academic achievements with complimentary terrace tickets. The night is also Fitness 19 Member Discount Night as all members of Fitness 19 can receive two for one admission by showing their member ID at the box office. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with kickoff at 7:00 p.m.

Saturday, May 21st - Join the Blitz mascot Crusher and Condors mascot Colonel Claw'd as they celebrate CALM's 22nd birthday beginning at 12:00 p.m. CALM (California Living Museum) will be having celebrations all day beginning at 8:00 a.m. CALM is located at 10500 Alfred Harrell Highway. For more information about the birthday celebration contact CALM at 872- 2256.

Week in Review:

Friday, May 13th - Bakersfield Sports Entertainment took part in Bakersfield City School District's Red Ribbon Week Kick Off at Compton Jr. High beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event kicked off a weeklong "Just Say No to Drugs" celebration.

Saturday, May 14th - Bakersfield Sports Entertainment's Director of Media Relations & Broadcasting took part in The Bakersfield Blaze Celebrity Softball game to benefit Relay for Life. The game took place prior to the Blaze battling the Visalia Oaks.
