Wichita Thunder News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder today announced their second player signing for the 2006-07 season, right wing Joe Blaznek.

A 10th-year veteran out of Detroit, Michigan, Blaznek had an exceptional season in 2005-06, finishing atop or among the league leaders in nearly every offensive category. He finished third in the CHL with 100 points, becoming the first Thunder player to reach the 100-point mark since Trevor Jobe in the 1996-97 season.

Blaznek, voted to have the hardest shot in the CHL's annual best of the best poll, finished third in the CHL with 44 goals. He also led the CHL with 20 power play goals, seven shorthanded goals, 363 shots on goal and finished second overall with nine game-winners. Blaznek was also voted the best player in the CHL on the power play and won the fastest skater competition at the 2006 CHL All-Star Skills Competition. A day later he was named Northern Conference MVP of the 2006 CHL All-Star Game, notching two goals and an assist.

Blaznek came to Wichita in January of 2004 and has since put up incredible numbers. In 145 career Thunder games he has notched 90 goals and 187 points, including 22 game-winners. Over his pro career, he has amassed 213 goals and 435 points in 470 games. Blaznek joins Daniel Tetrault as the first players signed for the 2006-07 season.

The Thunder, coming off their most successful campaign in 12 years, will begin their 15th CHL season on October 20th. Wichita finished the 2005-06 season ranked second in the CHL and seventh overall among North America's 54 "AA" hockey teams, averaging 5,719 fans per game.

Thunder season tickets, still the least expensive in the CHL, are on sale now, ranging from $256 to $408. The Thunder will also be holding Stanley Cup Finals watch parties at locations across the city. The first three games will be carried at Buffalo Wild Wings West and The Fox and the Hound.
