CHL Showcase Event in Oklahoma City
Oklahoma City, Okla. â The Oklahoma City Blazers will host the 2003 Central Hockey League All-Star Game in late January or early February in Oklahoma City's 18,000-seat New Downtown Arena, Blazers and league officials announced today.
This marks the second time in franchise history that the Oklahoma City Blazers franchise has been selected to host the CHL All-Star Game. On January 15, 1999, the Blazers hosted the third CHL All-Star game. The Western Division All-Stars defeated the Eastern Division All-Stars 8-4. Former San Antonio Iguanas centerman Brian Shantz picked up a hat trick and garnered Most Valuable Player honors.
The 2003 CHL All-Star Game will be included in the Blazers' season ticket holder packages for the 2002-03 season. The event will feature several events including an All-Star Gala, skills competition and the game itself.
"The All-Star Game is an exciting event," said Blazer general manager Chris Presson. "In addition to having the opportunity to showcase the best talent in our league, we will have the chance to show off our new state-of-the-art building in Oklahoma City."
"The Oklahoma City Blazers organization has continually proven to be one of the most successful franchises not only within the CHL, but in all of professional hockey," said CHL President Brad Treliving. "We are extremely excited to bring the CHL's showcase event to Oklahoma City and the beautiful New Downtown Arena. We are highly confident that the Blazers organization will put together a first-class event and provide a most enjoyable experience for all in attendance."
