Blazers Select Daryl Veltman with Top Pick in NLL Entry Draft

BOSTON (September 8, 2008) - The Boston Blazers selected forward Hobart College's Daryl Veltman with the first overall pick of the 2008 National Lacrosse League entry draft.

"We are thrilled to have a player of Daryl's caliber join the Boston Blazers," said Tom Ryan, Blazers head coach and general manager. "He is a smart, talented player who can play a variety of offensive roles for us, especially our top offensive lefty spot."

Veltman was the Eastern Conference Athletic Conference's (ECAC) leading scorer in 2008 with 26 goals in 11 games for a 2.36 goals per game average. He added 11 assists to rank second in the ECAC with 37 points per game. Veltman finished his collegiate career with 109 goals and 53 assists for a total of 162 points and was named an honorable mention All-American by the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Coaches Association. The first team All-ECAC forward was honored as co-winner of the 2008 Babe Kraus Award, presented annually to Hobart's most outstanding senior athlete.

Veltman of Coquitlam, British Columbia, hails from an accomplished lacrosse family. He is the younger brother of San Jose Stealth player Peter Veltman and the nephew of Jim Veltman, the recently retired captain of the Toronto Rock.
