Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Despite being out-shot 49-21 by the Memphis RiverKings, the Oklahoma City Blazers evened the first round playoff series between the teams with a 5-2 win Friday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. Garret Prosofsky collected a hat trick and Sebastien Centomo made 47 saves to lead the Blazers. Ryan Campbell scored both of the RiverKings' goals. Game three of the series is Sunday at 4:05 at the DCC.
The Blazers built a 3-0 lead on Prosofsky's first of the night in the first period, followed by second period tallies from Michel Beausoleil and Ryan Watson. Campbell scored on the power play to put the RiverKings on the board just nine seconds after Watson's shorthanded goal. Campbell came back to team up with Travis Banga on a two-on-one 52 seconds later to cut the lead to one.
The RiverKings carried the momentum into the third and dominated the opening minute-plus. But, just after a RiverKings scoring chance, the Blazers took the puck the other way and Marty Standish found Prosofsky going to the net for his second of the night 1:30 into the period. He completed the hat trick at 15:21 to make the final 5-2.
The RiverKings out-shot the Blazers 14-8 in the first period, 18-4 in the second and 17-19 in the third. Each team converted once on the power play. The RiverKings were one for nine, the Blazers were one for six.
Larry Sterling started in net for Memphis and took the loss, making nine saves on 13 shots. Kevin Schieve replaced Sterling and stopped seven of eight in the final 18:30.
Phil Aucoin had his second straight two assist game.
