
Thunder Shock Mudbugs in Game One of the Playoffs

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- Rookie goaltender Jon Horrell stole the show and the hearts of Mudbugs fans as the Wichita Thunder shocked the Mudbugs in game one of the playoffs first round, beating Bossier-Shreveport 5-1.
The Wichita Thunder stunned the CenturyTel Center crowd netting three first period goals. Travis Clayton scored on the power play to start the scoring. Tyler Hanchuck and Troy Barnes answered with even strength goals at 9:48 and 12:15, respectively.
The Mudbugs were able to answer in the second period when Karlis Zirnis threaded the puck between defenders to Ryan Fairbarn, who beat Wichita goalie Jon Horrell at 6:22 on the power play. Wichita re-gained the three goal lead when Daniel Tetrault's fluttering shot from the right points found its way past Ken Carroll.
The Mudbugs attempted a rally when granted a power play opportunity in the second minute of the the third period, but the Thunder answered with a dagger in the form of a shorthanded goal. Travis Clayton's breakaway led to a deke that extended the Thunder lead to four goals. John Horrell stopped 36 of 37 shots on goal to secure the Game One victory for the Thunder.
