Oklahoma City Blazers News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. â The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League acquired centerman Jay Woodcroft from the Topeka Tarantulas in exchange for veteran defenseman Peter Robertson, head coach Doug Sauter announced today.
Woodcroft, a 6-1, 190-pound native of Toronto, Ont., skated last season with the Corpus Christi Rayz. In 47 games with the Rayz, he scored 31 points (16-15-31) while serving 48 penalty minutes. His 16 goals tied him for the team lead in the category. Woodcroft scored a league season high six points (4-2-6) in the Rayz 6-4 win over the Colorado Eagles on December 5, helping him earn CHL Player of the Week honors. The four-year pro has scored 99 points (45-54-99) while serving 238 penalty minutes in 216 career games.
The veteran Robertson played four seasons in Oklahoma City. The 6-2, 210-pounder from Rothesay, New Brunswick scored 153 points (44-109-153) and served 189 penalty minutes in 255 games with the Blazers. His 153 points places him 12th on the Blazers all-time scoring list.
"We are looking forward to having Jay be a member of our hockey club," said Sauter. "His offensive potential is something we could have used last season. I hope he can score some goals for the Oklahoma City Blazers in the 04-05 campaign."
The Blazers will begin play in the team's 13th season in the CHL in late October. The 60-game schedule will be released pending completion in early August.
