Oklahoma City Blazers News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League traded forward Garett Cameron and defenseman Shawn Weiman to the Austin Ice Bats for the rights of veteran forward Jared Dumba, head coach Doug Sauter announced today. Following the trade, the Blazers then signed Dumba for the 05-06 campaign.
Dumba, a 6-0, 205-pound native of Dysart, Saskatchewan will be entering his sixth full season as a pro and fourth in Oklahoma City. During the 04-05 campaign, he skated with the Austin Ice Bats, recording 44 points (22-22-44) in 49 games played. In 289 games as a pro, over five full seasons, he amassed 273 points (136-137-273) and served 233 penalty minutes.
As a Blazer, Dumba experienced his most productive season as a pro during the 2000-01 campaign. During his first year as a pro, he recorded 75 points (36-39-75) in 70 games and was a member of the Blazers' championship squad. His 75 points is the second highest point total by a first-year player in Blazers history and earned him the runner-up spot in the CHL Rookie of the Year balloting. In 118 games as a Blazer, he posted 116 points (61-55-116) and served 110 penalty minutes.
"I'm excited to return to Oklahoma City to play hockey," said Dumba. "I've always enjoyed the city, even living here when I played elsewhere. I'm looking forward to playing with guys that I'm friends with like Fleck, Prosofsky and Standish. I'm excited to back to Oklahoma City and be a Blazer."
"We had to give up two good players in Cameron and Weiman to get Dumba, but we needed a good vet who could score on a consistent basis," said Sauter. "Jared certainly adds a scoring touch that we have lacked in the past. He's averaged a point a game in his career and I expect that kind of consistency from him this season. He and I have met extensively and know that what happened in the past, stays in the past. I'm looking forward to the future."
Dumba is the fourth veteran player signed by the Blazers for the 05-06 season. Each CHL team is permitted to have four players on their roster with 260-or-more games played. The addition of Dumba brings the number of players signed for the 05-06 season to eight. He joins Tyler Fleck, Garrett Prosofsky, Kahlil Thomas, Jason Goulet, Brad Herauf, Marty Standish and goaltender Sean Connors on the Blazers roster.
The Oklahoma City Blazers will kick off their 2005-06 campaign at home on Friday, October 21 against the Fort Worth Brahmas at 7:35 p.m. The Blazers will conclude their opening weekend on the road against the Wichita Thunder at 7:05 p.m.
