Austin Ice Bats News Release

The Austin Ice Bats of the Central Hockey League today announced completion of a trade with Oklahoma City, acquiring the rights to forward Garett Cameron and defenseman Shawn Weiman, in exchange for forward Jared Dumba.

The 23-year-old Cameron, a native of Grandora, Saskatchewan, will enter his second full pro season. Cameron capped a successful three-year junior career with the Melfort Mustangs of the Saskatchewan Junior League with a 53-goal, 106-point campaign in 2002-03. He then appeared in 11 regular season games and eight playoff games with the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL in 2004.

Cameron split his first full pro season with CHL teams in Topeka and Oklahoma City last year, scoring a combined 10 goals and 16 assists in 47 games.

"Garett is a feisty guy who goes out and competes every night," said Ice Bats Coach Bill McDonald of the 5-9, 175-pound Cameron. "And if you look at his junior numbers, he's also got some skill and can score. I saw him a lot when he played in Topeka last year, and always liked his competitive work ethic."

Weiman, 27, from Marshall, Saskatchewan, likewise was a stellar four-year performer in the Saskatchewan Junior League. A two-time All-Star, he was the league's Most Outstanding Defenseman in 1998-99. Following a four-year stint at Providence College, he split his rookie season with three ECHL teams in 2003-04. Weiman then scored 24 points in 60 games with Oklahoma City last year.

"Shawn is a steady, stay-at-home defenseman with some experience in our league," McDonald said. "You can never have too much depth on defense, it's the same at every level. I think both players obtained in this deal can be a good fit."

Dumba scored 22 goals and 22 assists in 49 games with the Ice Bats last year. With 289 professional games played, Dumba has now achieved veteran status. By league rule, CHL teams are limited to four players with 260 or more professional games played.

The Ice Bats have officially announced seven players signed to contract for the coming season, including forwards John McNabb, Jeff Neufeld and Jason Ruff, goaltender Matt Barnes and defensemen Darryl McArthur, Jeff Alcombrack and Ryan Leasa.
