Blaze Sign AFL Veteran Reed

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze is proud to announce the signing of AFL Veteran DL Elex Reed (6-5, 275, Mary Hardin-Baylor). Reed will enter his third year in the AFL in 2011.

Reed comes to the Blaze after spending the 2010 season with the Bossier-Shreveport Battlewings. He played in 15 games, recording 33.0 total tackles, two pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, one sack and one forced fumble. Reed made is AFL debut in 2008 with the Cleveland Gladiators.

"We are excited about signing Elex Reed and are anxious to see him lineup in a Blaze uniform," said Blaze Head Coach Ron James. "He has been a very productive pass rusher through his career in Arena Football and should be a valuable component to our defense."

In 2007, Reed made an immediate impact for the Battlewings, previously of the af2, by being named Russell Athletic Lineman of the Year as a rookie. He finished the season with 37.5 total tackles, a league-best 25.0 tackles for loss, ranked second overall with 17.5 sacks, forced three fumbles and blocked two kicks.

Collegiately, Reed was a star on defense at Division III powerhouse Mary Hardin-Baylor. He was a four year letter-winner and three-time All-American Southwest Conference selection.
