Blaze Move to 4-1 in August with 12-5 Final
August 6, 2015 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
After a lethargic Tuesday, the Bakersfield Blaze came back angry on Wednesday night, posting a massive seven-run inning en route to a 12-5 thumping of the host Lancaster Jethawks and a successful 4-3 road trip to the California League South.
The Blaze struck first and last in this romp, scoring in the 1st inning on a Rayder Ascanio groundout to plate Austin Wilson.
Then, in the 3rd, trailing by one, the Blaze tied it up when Nelson Ward's single brought home Daniel Torres.
And, in the pivotal 4th, with the Blaze once again down a single run, the floodgates opened wide. By the end of the inning, the Blaze had sent 11 men to the plate, scoring seven times to take a 9-3 lead. The key hits in the inning belonged to Ward, who cleared the bases with a three-run triple, Wilson, who doubled home two, and Kyle Petty, who bashed a two-run homer onto Avenue I for the frame's final runs.
Lancaster slowly whittled closer, chasing Blaze starter Brett Ash with two runs in the 5th.
But the Blaze bullpen was stellar. Rafael Pineda (W, 3-2) finished the 5th and followed by pitching the 6th, 7th and 8th innings, allowing just a hit and a walk. And after the Blaze put the finishing touches on the scoring with three in the 8th on Wilson's RBI double and Ascanio's two-run double, Emilio Pagan worked the 9th to end it.
Lancaster's David Paulino (L, 0-1) suffered the defeat in his second California League start, giving up eight Blaze runs in just 3.2 innings of work.
The Blaze now head home for the first time in a week to begin a four-game homestand against the Modesto Nuts, running Thursday through Sunday.
With four amazing promotions, fans would be remiss to skip all four dates. Thursday is dollar beer night; Friday is a fireworks night; Saturday, the Blaze are giving away 1,000 Derek Carr jerseys; and Sunday Disney Princesses from Frozen will be on hand to entertain the children.
The homestand also marks a return to 7:30pm start times. Gates open at 6:30pm and in the opener, dollar beer runs from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Jake Zokan (Bak) and Konner Wade (Mod) go toe-to-toe.
