SALT LAKE CITY -The Utah Blaze kicked off training camp today at Spence Eccles Practice Facility at the University of Utah. The players have five days to prepare before their Open House event on March 2nd, 2011 at 3 p.m. (MT), as they take on the San Jose SaberCats in an 80-play scrimmage. The event is free to the public.

The defensive players were constantly eager during practice, pushing it every play. The offensive players were kept busy taking instruction from coaches and learning a new system.

"The energy was high this morning, practice was fast paced and very productive," said Head Coach Ron James. "Our receiving core was solid and our veteran players are emerging as great leaders."

QB's Tommy Grady (6-7, 250, Utah) and Erik Meyer (6-2, 215, Eastern Washington) immediately had command over the offense. While DL Gabe Long (6-3, 220, Utah) and Caesar Rayford (6-5, 250, Washington) stepped up as leaders on the defensive end.

Long, a former Ute, said, "practice went really well. There was a great intensity throughout practice and I look forward to a great season with the Blaze."

Seasoned AFL veteran Aaron Boone, who is in his fourth season with the Blaze, said that "overall it was a great first day. There were very few mental errors. The defense has a lot of life, and the offense is learning a new system. I'm looking forward to getting back out there and building momentum in the upcoming days before we face San Jose."
