First Day in Pads for 2011 Soul

PHILADELPHIA (February 22, 2011) - After three days of jerseys, sweatpants, and helmets, the 2011 Philadelphia Soul put on the pads for the first time at today's practice. The resonating 'clicks' and 'clacks' of hitting throughout the NovaCare Complex indoor facility were a welcoming sound to Soul head coach Mike Hohensee on his birthday.

G.T.L. - Gym, TANNER, Laundry: The All-Arena performer defensive back Tanner Varner (6-0, 200, Northern Iowa) led the AFL with 129.5 total tackles, 113 solo tackles, and eight interceptions in 2010 with the Iowa Barnstormers. While playing in the af2 in 2009, he led the team in tackles with 119.5, and added eight interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles. In 2008, he led the Barnstormers in tackles with 91, and added seven interceptions and two forced fumbles. In 2007, he was an All-League performer with the af2 Arkansas Twisters and finished No. 3 on the team with 83.5 tackles, while leading the team with nine interceptions and two forced fumbles.

DID YOU KNOW Coach Hohensee has coached six current Soul players during his nine-year tenure with the Chicago Rush (2001-08, '10). Those players are DeJuan Alfonzo (2003-08, '10), James Sadler (2007-08), Donovan Morgan (2008), Chris Martin (2010), Syvelle Newton (2010), and Darnell Whitley (2010).
