Blast suspends midfielder Jonny Steele

Baltimore, MD - Baltimore Blast President and General Manager Kevin Healey announced today that the team has suspended midfielder Jonny Steele after an incident inside the locker room at halftime Saturday night in Philadelphia. Steele has been placed on suspension for the remaining two regular season games as well as the upcoming postseason.

Steele joined the Blast prior to the 2005-06 championship season and had 24 points in 26 games this season. A native of Northern Ireland, Steele is in his third MISL season. Steele, 21, is the youngest member of the Blast and previously played professionally in England and for the Northern Ireland Youth National Team.

In other Blast news, the team has just two games remaining the in the regular season and is still fighting for a spot in the 2007 postseason. The Blast is currently in fourth place, one game behind the second-place Philadelphia KiXX, half a game behind the third-place Chicago Storm and one game ahead of the fifth-place Milwaukee Wave. Among the Blast, KiXX, Storm and Wave, three of the teams still have chance to advance to the postseason.

Scenarios needed for Baltimore to advance to the playoffs:

Two Baltimore wins

Two Milwaukee losses

A combination of one win for Baltimore AND one loss for Milwaukee

Chicago losing their last three games (including to the Blast on Saturday)

The Blast (15-13) will host the Philadelphia KiXX Friday night and will travel to Chicago to play the Storm at 2 p.m. on Saturday for the last game of the regular season.
