Baltimore Blast News Release
The Blast advanced to 2-0 on the season with a 12-5 victory over the visiting St. Louis Steamers Saturday night. Despite early Steamers' leads, the Blast took over early in the second quarter and led from that point on. Seven different players scored for the Blast Saturday night, including Denison Cabral and Robbie Aristodemo who scored hat tricks. Adauto Neto added two goals and Giuliano Celenza, Lee Tschantret, Machel Millwood and David Become each scored one goal.
Neto Named MISL Offensive Player of the Week For Second Consecutive Week: Blast forward Adauto Neto was named MISL Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row after his five-point performance in Baltimore's 12-5 win over the St. Louis Steamers Saturday night. Neto recorded two goals and three assists in the game. After his first two Blast games, Neto ranks first in the MISL with 10 points (five goals and five assists). He was last week's MISL Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals and adding two assists to lead the Blast to a 9-4 win over California. Prior to being chosen by the Blast in the recent MISL Dispersal Draft, Neto led the Cleveland Force to the MISL Championship Series last season. Dating back to the 2004-05 season, Neto has recorded at least one goal in nine consecutive regular-season games. Despite an injury that kept him out of several games last year, he recorded 21 goals and 31 points in 25 games for the Force.
Bascome Hits 1,000: David Bascome recorded one goal and two assists Saturday night to record the 1,000th point of his 15-year indoor soccer career. Bascome's assist to Robbie Aristodemo at the 5:15 mark of the third quarter (gave Baltimore a 7-3 lead) was his third point of the game and the 1,000th point of his career. Bascome became just the 14th player in League history to reach the 1,000-point mark.
Kelly to hit 200: When the Blast plays this Sunday afternoon in Chicago, defender Danny Kelly will be playing in his 200th Blast game. Kelly, a 14-year veteran of professional indoor soccer is playing in his eighth season in Baltimore. He ranks seventh on Baltimore's all-time scoring list with 309 points and has two assists and one block this season.
Back in Action: After an injury-plagued 2004-05 season, the Blast is back at full strength this year, with the exception of Machel Millwood who injured his ankle and knee Saturday night. Baltimore's all-time leading scorer Denison Cabral is back to his high-scoring ways and forward Carlos Garcia is also back from last-year's season-ending knee injury and surgery. Cabral and Garcia retuned to the playing field on November 11th after almost a full year (364 days) of not participating in a game. Both players left the November 12th game against the Wave last year with knee injuries and underwent surgery later in the season.
Cabral recorded a hat trick Saturday night in the 12-5 win over the Steamers and ranks fourth in the MISL with seven points after two games. Garcia has one goal so far this season.
Baltimore vs. Chicago: The Blast (2-0) will travel to Chicago this weekend for their first road game of the season. The Storm, coached by Frank Klopas and former Blast player David Vaudreuil, are 1-2 on the season. John Ball, a former Cleveland Force player, leads Chicago with four points (three goals, one assist) and this week's MISL Goalkeeper of the Week Danny Waltman is back in goal for the Storm. Last year was Chicago's first season in the MISL and the team posted a 4-1 record against the Blast.
