Baltimore Blast News Release

The Baltimore Blast (9-9) will host the Milwaukee Wave this Saturday night, February 17th at 1st Mariner Arena. At halftime of the Blast vs. Wave game, the Blast will induct former player, Heinz Wirtz into the Baltimore Blast Hall of Fame.

Wirtz, a member of the 1983-84 Baltimore Blast championship team and the team MVP in 1982, will take part in the Hall of Fame induction festivities on the 17th. He played for the Blast from 1981-1986 and was named First-Team All-MISL and represented Baltimore in the All-Star Game in 1983. He ranks 11th on the original Blast's all-time scoring list with 141 points and ranks seventh on the postseason all-time scoring list with 40 points. Wirtz currently lives in South Florida.

Original Blast Head Coach Kenny Cooper, former players Stan Stamenkovic, Mike Stankovic, Tim Wittman, Bruce Savage, Dave MacWilliams and Joey Fink are already in Hall of Fame, along with original MISL Commissioner Earl Foreman. In addition to Wirtz, Fink, MacWilliams and Stankovic will all be at the game to pay tribute to their former teammate.

In addition to the induction ceremony, the current Blast players will be wearing retro jerseys, as a tribute to Wirtz and his original Blast teammates. The retro jerseys will be auctioned off during the game and winners will be able to take their game-worn jerseys home that night. Bidding for the field player jerseys will start at $75 and goalkeeper jerseys will start at $100.

Immediately following the Blast vs. Wave game, there will be a post-game party just two blocks from 1st Mariner Arena at the Radisson Plaza Lord Baltimore Lobby Bar (20 West Baltimore Street). The post-game party will last until midnight and will feature food and drink specials, autographs from Hall of Famers and raffles for Blast merchandise!
