Baltimore - The Baltimore Blast announced today that the team will open the 2006-07 MISL season Saturday, November 4 in Detroit against the expansion Ignition. The 2006 MISL Champions will host the Chicago Storm at 1st Mariner Arena on Saturday, November 11 at 7:35 p.m. The Blast will play 30 total games this season; 15 at home and 15 on the road.
2006-07 season highlights include five games against the Ignition and five matches against the Milwaukee Wave, who Baltimore's defeated to win two of their three championships. The Blast and Wave will play a home-and-home series, starting in Milwaukee on Friday, December 1 and wrapping up in Baltimore the following night, December 2.
The defending champs will take the field this season, led by head coach Danny Kelly. Several veteran players will return to the playing field for the upcoming season, including Lee Tschantret, David Bascome and Denison Cabral. In addition, local players P.J. Wakefield, Billy Nelson and Giuliano Celenza will be back to represent Baltimore. Adauto Neto, the 2005-06 MISL MVP and Machel Millwood, the MVP of the 2006 MISL Championship Series will also return for another season in a Blast jersey.
The Blast will play seven home games on Friday nights and eight home games on Saturday nights this season. All of the 15 home games will be played at 1st Mariner Arena and will kick off at 7:35 p.m.
Keeping with the Baltimore Blast tradition of affordable family entertainment, fans will be treated to various promotional items throughout the season including replica jersey T-shirts, soccer balls and bobble heads. The team will host a variety of theme nights including Boy and Girl Scout night and two free post-game concerts, the first of which will feature the popular Christian rock band Kutless on Friday, November 17. In addition, the Blast will host a Hall of Fame Night to celebrate the franchise's 27 seasons in Baltimore and will induct additional members into the Hall of Fame.
The MISL will feature six teams this season, and will play each other team five times. In addition to the Blast, the California Cougars, Philadelphia KiXX, Milwaukee Wave, Chicago Storm and expansion Detroit Ignition will field teams this year.
Blast season tickets and mini-plans are on sale now by calling the Blast office at 410-73-BLAST. Single-game tickets will go on sale in October. Tickets will cost $20 and $17 and will be available at the 1st Mariner Arena Box Office and can also be ordered by calling TicketMaster at 410-547-SEAT or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
