September 20, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Baltimore Blast News Release
Baltimore â Baltimore Blast General Manager Kevin Healey announced today that defender Scott Schweitzer has signed an MISL Offer Sheet and will join the Blast for the upcoming 2004-05 season. The Blast originally acquired Schweitzer's rights in August of 2002 when the Blast traded its second-round pick in the MISL Dispersal Draft to the Cleveland Crunch in exchange for Schweitzer.
"Scott is an outstanding player and we have looked forward to adding him to our active roster since we acquired his rights in 2002," Healey said. "Scott will be a very valuable asset to our team."
Schweitzer, a seven-year veteran of the indoor game, has also spent the last seven seasons playing in the A-League with the Rochester Rhinos and Syracuse Salty Dogs. In seven indoor seasons with the Crunch, Schweitzer won two NPSL Championships (1998-99 and 1995-96), played in four NPSL All Star Games (1996, 1998, 2000 and 2001) and was selected First Team All-Rookie after making his debut in 1994-95.
In addition to his two indoor Championships, Schweitzer won A-League Titles in 1998, 2000 and 2001 with the Rochester Rhinos and was named First-Team All A-League in 2000 and Third-Team All A-League in 2003. A two-time A-League Defender of the Year, he was also a member of the Rhinos' Open Cup Championship team in 1999. After six seasons with the Rhinos, Schweitzer was traded to the Syracuse Salty Dogs prior to the 2004 season. A graduate of North Carolina State University, he was named All-America and ACC Player of the Year and All-ACC First-Team in 1992.
"I am very excited to play for such a good team and such a good group of players," Schweitzer said. "I've been trying to come here for two years so I'm glad it all finally worked out."
