Blair Named Texas League Player of the Week

Texas League President Tom Kayser announced on Monday that RockHounds catcher Carson Blair has been named the league's Player of the Week for May 25-31. Blair is the first RockHound to receive that honor this season.
In six games, Blair batted .350 (7-for-20) while tying for the league lead in doubles (3), triples (2), and extra-base hits (5). He led the Texas League with 12 RBI and was second with a .700 slugging percentage. Aided by five walks during this span, Blair had the league's fourth-best on-base percentage (.500) and was third (behind 'Hounds teammates Colin Walsh and Jaycob Brugman) with a 1.200 OPS (on-base + slugging).
For the season, Blair ranks eighth in the Texas League with a .310 batting average, fourth in on-base percentage (.436) and fifth in slugging percentage (.513). His on-base percentage leads the RockHounds, while both his batting average and slugging percentage are second on the club.
The 25-year-old Blair (from Argyle, Texas) signed with the Athletics as a minor league free agent last November and was a non-roster invitee to Oakland's 2015 Spring Training. He was originally selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 35th round of the 2008 draft.
Blair's performance led the team to a 4-2 homestand during the week, including a three-game sweep of the Tulsa Drillers in a rematch of last September's Texas League Championship Series. The 'Hounds (26-24) are in sole possession of second place in the Texas League South, 7.5 games behind the Corpus Christi Hooks and five games ahead of the Frisco RoughRiders.
The RockHounds begin a six-game road trip on Tuesday with three games in Tulsa before playing three games against the Springfield Cardinals. The team returns to Security Bank Ballpark on June 9 for its only homestand of the month: June 9-12 versus Corpus Christi and June 13-16 versus Frisco.
