October 2, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release

Tonight... The Saskatoon Blades open up a 4-game in 5 nights' road trip in Red Deer taking on the Rebels in the only game on the WHL schedule tonight. It's the first of a 4-game season series; three of which coming this month... the fourth and final game isn't until March. The two clubs enter the game with 6 points on the season, meaning at least one team will leap frog over Brandon for 3rd place in the Eastern Conference tonight.

Last season the Blades went 3-1 against the Rebels. Saskatoon has a +7 goal differential through four games this season while the Rebels are even with an extra game played. Both played on Sunday night; the Blades coming off a 4-1 loss in Prince Albert, the Rebels a 6-5 OT win in Calgary.

Kirby Dach's 7 points lead the Blades with veteran Max Gerlach right behind at 4 goals and 6 points. Nolan Maier has 3 wins in 4 starts. Nolan Maier has started all four games for Saskatoon this season; Dorrin Luding came in relief on Sunday in the third period and stopped all 16 shots faced.

The opponent... The Rebels have won three straight games including a late comeback and eventual overtime victory on Sunday in Calgary over the Hitmen. Veteran forward Brandon Hagel leads the Rebels' offense with 10 points through 5 games with 18-year-old defensemen Dawson Barteaux right behind with 8 points on the season. Sophomore netminder Ethan Anders has gone 2-2 in four starts for the Rebels; rookie Byron Fancy has one win in his only start this season.

The lineup... will look a little different tonight for Saskatoon as defensemen Jackson Caller and Seth Bafaro are both sidelined with injuries and did not travel with the team. 20-year-old forward Brad Goethals is also no longer with the Blades, meaning several young players will likely be getting a chance to move up in the lineup.
