Blades Look For Revenge In Swift Current

The Saskatoon Blades take a four game winning streak into Swift Current tonight for a matchup with the division rival Broncos. Game time is 7:00 pm.

Head-to-Head

The Broncos won the lone game between the clubs this season on October 23rd with a 6-2 victory at home. For the Blades, it was the team's last defeat which was five games ago. The Blades had Gaelan Patterson (Saskatoon, SK) and Charles Inglis (Saskatoon, SK) score in the loss.

Saskatoon Blades

The Blades (12-3-0-2, 1st in East Division, T-1st in Eastern Conference) picked up their tenth win in the last eleven and fourth consecutive victory with a 4-3 decision over the Moose Jaw Warriors last night. Stefan Elliott (North Vancouver, BC) had two goals to lead the way, while Charles Inglis (Saskatoon, SK) with a goal and an assist and Walker Wintoneak (Flin Flon, MB) had the other goals. Adam Morrison (White Rock, BC) made 29 saves in goal to claim the victory.

Captain Derek Hulak (Saskatoon, SK), fifth in WHL scoring, remains atop the Blades' scoring list with 9 goals and 18 assists for 27 points on the season. Wintoneak is tied for eighth in WHL scoring and is second on the Blades with 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points. Patterson is third in Blades scoring with 7 goals and 11 assists for 18 points. Elliott, the leading scoring among Blades' defensemen, is tied for fourth in scoring among WHL defenseman on the season with 8 goals and 9 assists for 17 points.

Wintoneak leads the Blades in goals on the campaign with ten markers.

Randy McNaught (Nanaimo, BC), who will miss the final game of his five game suspension, leads the team and league with 70 penalty minutes. Darian Dziurzynski (Lloydminster, AB) is second on both lists with 62 penalty minutes.

Morrison had made 13 appearances coming into tonight's game, compiling an 8-3-0-2 record with a 2.50 goals against average (5th in the WHL), and a.913 save percentage (6th in the WHL). The other Blades' netminder, Steven Stanford (Calgary, AB) has a 4-2-0-0 record with a 2.38 goals against average (2nd in the WHL) and a.902 save percentage.

The Blades feature the 20th ranked power play in the WHL, converting at a 13.8% rate this season. The team's penalty killing unit is working at an 87.3% rate, good enough for 2nd overall in the WHL.

Swift Current Broncos

The Broncos (9-7-0-1, 4th in East Division, 6th in Eastern Conference) come into tonight following a 7-3 loss at the hands of the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night.

Cody Eakin leads the team in scoring with 17 goals and 5 assists for 22 points. Justin Dowling is second with 6 goals and 13 assists for 19 points.

Eakin's 17 goals give him a share of the lead in the WHL on the season.

Overage forward Michael Stickland has 29 penalty minutes to lead the team in that category.

Goaltender Morgan Clark has appeared in 12 Broncos' games this season with a 7-3-0-1 record to go along with a 3.33 goals against average and.895 save percentage. Rookie Alexandre Sirard has appeared in 7 games so far with a 2-4-0-0 record, a 3.37 goals against average, and a.869 save percentage.

The Broncos' power play is ranked 17th in the WHL, converting on 15.5% of man power advantages. The penalty kill unit is ranked 11th in the WHL, killing off 79.7% of shorthanded situations.
