Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades scored two short-handed goals and used 33 saves by goaltender Phil Osaer to grab a 2-0 series lead over the Greenville Grrrowl after a 4-2 win on Saturday night at Germain Arena.

After a scoreless first period, the Everblades exploded for three second period goals to help propel them to the game two victory. Paul Cabana notched the first goal of the night by converting a 5-on-3 power play goal for his first playoff goal of the year at 4:11 of the middle period. After Greenville answered back just 1:35 later on Tim Sestito's second playoff goal, Cabana notched his second of the night wristing a shot off the face-off past Greenville net-minder Jeff Deslauriers for the 2-1 lead at 6:18. On that goal, Reggie Berg became the Everblades all-time leading playoff point getter with an assist giving him 41 points during his Everblades career.

The Everblades added to their lead with their third short-handed goal of the series when Matt Bannan raced in on a breakaway at 17:46 of the second period. The goal was the first of Bannan's professional career and gave the Everblades a 3-1 lead heading into the locker room.

In the third period, more history was made when Berg tied Tom Buckley as the Everblades all-time leading playoff goal scorer with his second short-handed goal of the series at 6:15. The goal was Berg's 17th career playoff goal matching Buckley's 17 markers from 1999-2004.

The Grrrowl notched the game's last goal when, with the goaltender pulled for an extra attacker, and while on a 5-on-3 power play, Rory McMahon slammed home a shot from the bottom of the left circle with 1:36 remaining in regulation.

Osaer improved his playoff record to 2-0 with the 33 saves, many in spectacular fashion, while Deslauriers fell to 2-2 in the post season by allowing the four goals on 25 shots.

On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 1-for-7, while the Grrrowl closed out game going 1-for-10.

The Everblades return to action for Game 3 of the semi-final division series on Friday, April 21 when they take on the Greenville Grrrowl at 7:05 p.m. from the BI-LO Center in Greenville, SC.
