Blade's Busy Holiday Schedule

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today that their trusty mascot Blade is trying to set a new personal record for appearances in the community during the Independence Day holiday week.

Blade starts his week of activities at the Park Avenue Sports Center Grand Opening on Saturday July 1st. Located at 412 Park Avenue in Corning, Blade will be on hand starting with the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at12:00 pm as he helps commemorate the grand opening of this new center for Miniature Golf and much more. The celebration includes food provided by the South Corning Fire Department, fire safety training for children, a live remote by 95 The Met, and lots of giveaways from local merchants.

Sunday July 2nd Blade is going to make a surprise appearance on the Trolley Into Mark Twain Country Tour, from the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce. The Trolley tours depart on the hour from the Holiday Inn Riverview, 760 East Water Street in Elmira. The first tour begins at 10:00 am and the last tour begins at 2:00 pm.

Next up for our intrepid mascot is the big holiday itself. Blade is attending the 4th of July - News Channel 36 WENY-TV Party at Clute Park in Watkins Glen on Tuesday. The festivities begin at 12:00 pm and run all day, up to the Fireworks Celebration over Seneca Lake at 9:30 pm. The patriotic Blade is hoping to be a part of the Glen Harbor Marina Lighted Boat Parade, which gets underway at 8:45 pm. For more information log on to www.weny.com

On Thursday, July 6th, Blade will continue to do his charitable duties as he appears at the American Red Cross Blood Drive at the First Arena. The Blood Drive begins at 12 pm and runs until 8 pm. Blade will be on hand to support this wonderful cause from 12 pm to 2 pm.

And finally, that pesky animal will be at the Marge Lewis Memorial Access Athletics Olympics on Friday July 7th. Blade is supporting a sports day for physically and developmentally challenged adults at Denison Park in Corning. A variety of events will be held, including swimming events and track & field.
