ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Malcolm Cameron announced today the team has acquired defenseman Michael Grenzy from the Ontario Reign in exchange for the rights to forward Preston Callander.

Grenzy, who made the deal official by signing a contract to play for the Everblades in 2008-09, is another familiar face to Cameron who coached the 24-year-old in Texas last season. As a rookie in 2007-08, Grenzy totaled nine points (1g, 8a) and 70 penalty minutes in 61 regular season games with the Wildcatters, while also chipping in one assist in nine Kelly Cup Playoff games.

"Mike is a big, strong, physical defenseman who is tough to play against." Cameron said. "He had an outstanding rookie season with me last year in Texas and I'm excited about seeing him build on that this year in an Everblades jersey."

Prior last season, the Lockport, New York native competed at the collegiate level for four seasons at Clarkson University. Grenzy, who was drafted in the 9th round of the 2003 NHL entry draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, put together his best season with Clarkson during his junior year when he posted 22 points (3g, 19a) in 36 games. Overall the 6-foot-3, 201 pound blue-liner tallied 52 points (11g, 41a) in 125 career games with the Golden Knights.
