New England Black Wolves News Release
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (November 20, 2014) - The home and road uniform jerseys of the New England Black Wolves - the National Lacrosse League franchise that relocated to Mohegan Sun in August - were unveiled Thursday.
The jersey design incorporates elements that reflect both the Mohegan Tribe and the Native American heritage of the game. A prominent element of the jersey is a stylized pattern of lightning bolts that suggest fur while also indicating the speed and action of the game as well as the power of the Black Wolf.
"Not only are we proud to have this game with its Native American origins come home to roost, but we are proud that the name conveys the pride we have in our Mohegan heritage as we are known as the 'Wolf Clan' (Mohiks) in Algonquian history," Mohegan Tribal Council Chairman Kevin Brown said. "I think this uniform design captures the essence of our history and its ties to the ancient game of lacrosse." Mohegan Sun and the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority (MTGA) entered into a partnership with the owners of the Philadelphia Wings on August 6th. The team relocated and will play its home games at Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Black Wolves open the season January 2nd, hosting the Buffalo Bandits at 7 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena. For more information, or to purchase tickets, call 1-844-LAX-WOLF (529.9653) or email tickets@blackwolves.com.
