New England Black Wolves News Release
Rochester - The New England Black Wolves could not take advantage of a fast start on Saturday night against the Rochester Knighthawks, falling 17-13 at The Blue Cross Arena.
The 17 goals were a season-high for Rochester (5-5), which bounced back from a loss Friday night in Buffalo. New England slipped to 5-4, losing two straight for the first time this year.
New England jumped out to a 6-1 lead after one quarter, getting the first five goals of the game while taking advantage of three Rochester penalties, including a pair of five-minute majors for high sticking on Dylan Evans.
Five different Black Wolves - Pat Saunders, Jordan Hall, Kevin Crowley, Shawn Evans and Kyle Buchanan - found the back of the net in the first 12:25 of the game. After Joe Resetarits scored for Rochester, Saunders scored his second goal of the quarter to make it 6-1.
But momentum changed drastically in the second quarter as the Knighthawks exploded for nine goals, including four in the first 3:13 of the period. Two goals in 13 seconds by Dan Dawson and Cody Jamieson cut the Rochester deficit to 6-3, and after Evan Kirk came up with a great save on a breakaway, Dawson scored again to make it 6-4.
Later in the quarter, with the Black Wolves still leading 8-5, a five-minute major for high sticking on Bill O'Brien led to power play goals by Dawson and Stephen Keogh. Jamieson and Keogh each scored again and Rochester led 10-8 at halftime.
The second half started out like the first, with New England scoring the first three goals to take an 11-10 lead. But Rochester answered with four straight goals - three by Keogh - and it was 14-11 Knighthawks early in the fourth quarter.
New England could not get closer than two goals the rest of the way.
Saunders (three goals, four assists) and Kyle Buchanan (three goals, one assist) led the New England offense. Crowley (two goals, five assists) and Evans (two goals, four assists) also had multi-goal nights.
Dawson (five goals, three assists) and Keogh (five goals, two assists) had big nights for Rochester while Jamieson (two goals, five assists) and Walters (one goal, six assists) also made key contributions.
New England returns home to face Rochester on Friday, March 25th at 7 p.m.
