Black Wolves Announce Roster for 2016 Season

UNCASVILLE, Conn. - The New England Black Wolves of the National Lacrosse League have set their roster for the 2016 season.

The Black Wolves will be anchored by a core of returning veterans, and bolstered by a group of newcomers that includes the reigning NLL Most Valuable Player, Shawn Evans.

Among the returning veterans, 2015 NLL Sportsmanship Award recipient Kyle Buchanan will look to build on a team-leading 37 assists. He is joined by Pat Saunders, who led the Black Wolves in goals (38) and points (68) in 2015, and Brett Bucktooth, who had a career-high 22 goals for New England last season. Other veterans returning for the Black Wolves are goalies Evan Kirk and Tye Belanger, along with Kevin Buchanan, Brett Manney, Ryan Hotaling, Brian Megill and Jim Purves.

Acquired by trade, Evans is a two-time NLL MVP (2013 and 2015) who also led the league in scoring both of those season. He is joined by Kevin Crowley, who returned to the Black Wolves in a trade from Toronto.

Quinn Powless, who missed the majority of the 2015 season due to injury, Bill O'Brien and Sheldon Burns are back for their sophomore seasons with the Black Wolves. Newcomers to the team include Shane MacDonald, acquired from Georgia during the offseason, as well as free agents John Ranagan, Derek Suddons and Dan Ball. Selected 22nd overall in the 2015 NLL Entry Draft, Mike MacDonald is New England's lone draft selection to make the active roster.

The Black Wolves open the 2016 NLL season January 9th in Vancouver before returning to Connecticut for its home opener against the Calgary Roughnecks on Friday, January 15th at 7 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena.
