Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa - Between September 29th and April 13th, the Waterloo Black Hawks will play all of the United States Hockey League's 15 other clubs amidst a 2023/24 schedule which was released by the USHL Wednesday.

The Hawks' home opener will be on Saturday, October 14th against the Omaha Lancers at 6:05 p.m. It will be the first of 13 Saturday home games at Young Arena this season. The matchup also opens a season-long five-game homestand, concluding on Saturday, November 4th against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. That game promises to be the first time Waterloo has met Muskegon since the coronavirus interrupted the 2019/20 slate. For the past three years, the USHL's annual schedule has been imbalanced. In addition to the long hiatus in the Hawks-Lumberjacks series, Waterloo will also be hosting USA Hockey's National Team Development Program and the Green Bay Gamblers for the first time in more than three years.

"Our fans have missed seeing some of these opponents, so I know there will be even more enthusiasm than usual for today's announcement," said Black Hawks President and COO Joe Greene. "This year's schedule includes some familiar highlights like Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve. There's a lot to be excited for as we look ahead."

The Black Hawks' first two official games will be part of the United States Hockey League's Fall Classic in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania during late September. The specific dates, times, and opponents for those games will be released by the USHL next month.

Excluding the Fall Classic, Waterloo will meet the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, Des Moines Buccaneers, and Dubuque Fighting Saints eight times apiece. Four matchups are on the schedule against each of the Hawks' other Western Conference rivals. Waterloo will meet every Eastern Conference team other than Cedar Rapids and Dubuque for one home and one road game.

Some of the Hawks' premier home dates in 2023/24 include:

- Friday, October 20th versus the Lincoln Stars in a rematch of last season's Western Conference playoff series.

- Thursday, November 23rd, the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders visit on Thanksgiving.

- Thursday, December 28th, some of the best young American players come to town from the National Team Development Program Under-17s.

- Sunday, December 31st, Waterloo meets the Dubuque Fighting Saints on New Year's Eve.

- Friday, February 9th, the Green Bay Gamblers return to Young Arena for the first time since October 25, 2019.

Waterloo's Saturday home games will begin at 6:05 p.m. The New Year's Eve contest against Dubuque also starts at 6:05, with all other Sunday home contests slated for 3:05 p.m. The remainder of the Hawks Young Arena matchups will start at 7:05 p.m. Game dates and start times are subject to change.
