Week in Review:

The Waterloo Black Hawks are coming off a pair of victories last weekend. The Hawks defeated Sioux Falls on Friday night at Young Arena and followed it up with an exciting shoot-out victory over Sioux City on Saturday. The wins stretched the Black Hawks winning streak to two and got them back to the .500 mark.

Up next for the Hawks is a critical weekend in which they will face the top two teams in the Eastern Division. Both the RoughRiders and Steel are tied for first in the East with 52 points. The Black Hawks are currently in fourth place in the East one point behind third place Danville Wings.

Waterloo's Past Weekend Game Wraps:

Friday January 30, 2004- Waterloo 3 Sioux Falls 1

The Waterloo Black Hawks overcame a 1-0 deficit to top the Stampede 3-1 at Young Arena. Waterloo's Tim Madsen (Elk River, MN) tied the game up with a power play goal mid-way through first to tie the game at one after one. The Hawks took the lead in the second on a Peter MacArthur (Clifton Park, NY) goal to put Waterloo up 2-1 after two. Joel Hanson (Elk River, MN) capped off the Waterloo victory with a short-handed goal in the third. Kevin Regan (South Boston, MA) stopped 18-19 shots for the win in net.

Saturday January 31, 2004- Waterloo 2 Sioux City 1 (shoot-out)

Waterloo traveled to Sioux City to take on the red hot Musketeers, winners of seven straight. The Hawks used a solid offensive and defensive effort on their way to the shoot-out victory. Both teams skated a scoreless opening period in which Sioux City out shot the Hawks 14-12. Waterloo broke the scoreless tie on a Peter MacArthur power play goal early in the second. Waterloo out shot the Musketeers 16-10 in the second period. Sioux City tied the game on a Matt Hartman goal mid-way through the third to tie the game at one apiece.

The game remained tied at one through regulation. Both teams skated a scoreless overtime which sent the contest to a shoot-out. In the shoot-out Waterloo's David Meckler (Highland Park, IL), Joe Pavelski (Plover, WI), Mike Radja (Yorkville, IL) and Matt Fornataro (Calgary, Alberta) converted on their shoot-out shots. Kevin Regan stopped 2-4 Sioux City shots to send Waterloo to the win. Regan stopped 36-37 shots in regulation.

Waterloo Black Hawks Team/League Players of the Week:

· Peter MacArthur and Kevin Regan earn Offensive and Defensive Team Player of Week Award

MacArthur, comes of a three point weekend. He scored the game-winning goal in the Black Hawks victory over Sioux Falls on Friday. The Clifton Park, NY native capped off a banner January in which he registered nine points in 12 games. His 12 goals currently leads the team. He is committed to Boston University for the 2004-05 season.

Regan earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor. He went 2-1-0 and stopped 74-78 shots, and 2-4 shoot-out attempts. The South Boston, MA goaltender went 7-4-0 in 12 appearances in January with a 1.90 GAA. He is committed to New Hampshire for the 2004-05 season.

Steel Preview:

The Chicago Steelare currently tied with Cedar Rapids for first place in the Eastern Division Friday's game marks the start of a five game home stand for the Steel. Chicago is coming off a pair of wins last weekend over St. Louis in a shoot-out and Danville in overtime.

Offensively #13 Danny Charleston 42 points on 18 goals/ 24 assists, #21 Topher Scott 33 points on 13 goals and 20 assists, and #17 Matt Mcllvane 32 points on 14 goals and 18 assists lead the team. Charleston's 42 points are sixth best in the USHL. The Steel has fared well versus Eastern Division opponents going 15-4-2 in 21 division contests.

Defensively goaltenders #30 Adam D'Alba and #35 Shane Connely lead the way. D'Alba has appeared in 23 games and has an 11-7-3 mark with a 2.81 GAA and a .914 save %. Connely has appeared in 22 games and has an 13-5-1 record with a 2.31 GAA and a .926 save %.

RoughRider Preview:

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders are currently tied with Chicago for first place with a 25-16-2 mark. Cedar Rapids opens play out of the All-Star break with four of their first five games on the road. The Hawks and Rider's will also lock horns on Valentine's Day night in Waterloo.

Offensively Jon Grabarek leads the way with 40 points on 14 goals and 26 assists, James Brannigan 33 points on 17 goals and 16 assists, and Matt Vokes 32 points on 13 goals and 16 assists. As a team Cedar Rapids leads the league with 146 goals, 222 assists and 368 individual points.

In goal Joe Fallon has been solid. He has a 19-9-1 record with a 2.50 GAA and a .917 save %. He leads all USHL goaltenders in wins and is tied for the league lead with 3 shutouts.
