Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Longview-Kelso: August 2, 2011: The Black Bears welcomed the WCL Portland All-Stars to Story Field after a successful 2-1 road trip to Kitsap. The game, on the eve of a pair of two days off, had an All-Star ambiance as the teams combined to use 12 pitchers and the Black Bears started players in their secondary positions.
Stuart Fewel (LCC) got the start after recovering from a minor injury and used his three innings to get back into his pitching groove. The righty looked like he didn't miss a beat when rolling up a double play in the first inning.
Kevin Schwartz (Pacific University) went one-for-two with a triple, a walk, and a stolen base. Billy Flamion (University of Oregon) got the call at first base, and went two-for-four with a pair of RBI singles. With Flamion taking his regular position, Kirk Cunningham (LSU) moved across the diamond to third and continued his post-All-Star break tear at the plate with three singles in three plate appearances.
The Walla Walla Sweets come to town for a weekend series starting Friday, August 5th. It will be Las Rocas Fabulous Friday, and Pet Works will present Bark In The Park, with the first 100 fans receiving a Black Bears dog bowl. The next night will be the final Applebee's Saturday at the Park, as well as the Dick Hannah Toyota T-shirt Giveaway. Both games will start at 6:35 pm.
