Berkshire Black Bears News Release

PITTSFIELD- The Berkshire Black Bears snapped their losing streak Thursday night with a 6-5 win over the Quebec Les Capitals. The Black Bears jumped out to an early 4-0 lead but Quebec came back to tie the game and then take the lead 5-4 in the 5th inning setting the stage for a rally. Darond Stovall was the hero at the plate for the Black Bears when he hit a deep fly ball to centerfield that scored Michael Moore from third.

The Black Bears again relied heavily on the bullpen again. Black Bear starter Brian Gouin went 5 innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while walking 2 and striking out 2. Greg Mckoule came to start the 6th inning and went 1 inning plus allowing 1 run on 2 hits. Bob Case came on to work 2/3 of an inning allowing 1 run on 1 walk; he did not surrender a hit. Matt Bailey came on with 2 out in the 7th inning and pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing 1 hit, walking no one and struck out 2. Fireball closer Joe Cotton came on to pitch a perfect 9th inning.

A fan highlight of the night was the "Win Jonathan Fleisig's Money" promotion. At the bottom of each inning a lucky fan was brought down to the "Money Chair" located right behind home plate. For each Black Bear hit that fan was awarded cash, $10 for a single, $25 for a double, $50 for a triple and $100 for a home run. The Black Bears go on the road to Adirondack for a three game series beginning tomorrow night.
