Black Bears Lose Series to Lumberjacks

PITTSFIELD-The Berkshire Black Bears struggled at the plate and in the field Wednesday night as they dropped their second game in a row losing 8-2 to the Adirondack Lumberjacks. The Black Bears have the night off tomorrow and then begin a 6 game road trip on Friday when they travel to New Jersey.

Black Bears starter Aaron Akin went 3 1/3 innings giving up 6 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 2. Mike Minerva came on in relief and lasted 2 2/3 innings pitching 3 hit scoreless relief. He did not walk a batter and he struck out 2. Jim Harrison came to begin the 7th inning and pitched 2 scoreless innings, allowing 1 single and striking out 3 batters. Closer Joe Cotton came on in the 9th and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits.

Black Bears who connected at the plate included Curtis Goodwin, Joe Kerrigan and Michael Moore. Chris Vasquez, Chris Sawyer and Adrian Mendoza all singled. Wahconah Park will host 4th of July festivities tomorrow beginning at 4pm with a Camp Baseball Challenge between Camp Winadu and Camp Lenox. At 6:30 the Pittsfield Parade Committee Inc. will present a talent variety show featuring several acts including the Patriots Marching Band. The grand finale "Energy In The Sky" fireworks presented by ElectraStor will begin at 9:30.
