Black Bears Edged in Shootout Thriller

The Maryland Black Bears lost a long and hard fought 2-1 game that came down to a shootout. David Tomeo played incredibly well by leading the way with 24 saves in the defensive battle. Both teams were held scoreless in the first period. Daylon Mannon scored the only Black Bears goal to answer the Johnstown Tomahawk strike by Owen Arfstrom in the second period.

The defensive struggle continued throughout the third period, which led to overtime. In overtime, the Black Bears were able to survive the 7-2 shot onslaught by the Tomahawks and forced a shootout. Black Bears Forward Joseph Mancuso was able to convert his first shootout opportunity to put the Black Bears ahead early. The Tomahawks first two shootout attempts were denied, but the Black Bears followed with three straight chances left on the table. Johnstown utilized their final two attempts to snub out the victory.
