Black Bears Beat Kelowna 4-3

Longview: Three Black Bears pitchers combined to retire the last nine hitters and slam the door shut on a 4-3 win over the Kelowna Falcons Monday night.

After Kelowna got on the board with a run in the top of the third, the Black Bears came back with two of their own to take the lead. Derrick Salberg (Lower Columbia) scored on a single by Kyle Kuck (Santa Ana) and Alex Rubanowitz (UC Riverside) brought in Austin Diemer (Cal State Fullerton) on an RBI groundout.

The Black Bears answered again in the fifth with two runs to retake the lead. Salberg drove in Diemer on a single and then scored on another RBI groundout by Rubanowitz.

Cole Irvin (Oregon) got the win for the Black Bears, allowing three runs in six innings before Brian McAfee (Cornell), John Bjorklund (Mt. Hood), and Taylor Williams (Mt. Hood) each had a perfect inning. Salberg and Tyler Madrid (Santa Ana) both had multi-hit games for the Black Bears.

The Black Bears next home game is Tuesday, August 7 against the Bend Elks. It will be Azteca $2 Tuesday. There will be $2 general admission tickets, $2 hot dogs, $2 soda, and $2 beer.
