
Black Bears Battle But Lose Third Straight

PITTSFIELD-The Berkshire Black Bears put some impressive offensive numbers on the board but in the end they failed to close the deal as they lost to the Elmira Pioneers 5-3 Thursday night. The loss is the 5th in a row for the Black Bears.
The Black Bears got 8 hits on the night including a home run blast from Chris Sawyer. They got on the board in the second inning with a double from Ender Gonzalez. Gonzalez moved to third on a error and then scored on a ground out from Luis Mercedes. Sawyer's home run provided the second run. The third run came a RBI double from Nelson Samboy that scored Mercedes.
On the mound starter Dallas Mahan went 8 full innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, walking 1 and striking out 4. Reliever Ken Henderson, just off the DL, came on in relief but was ineffective walking 2 and allowing a home run. Greg Mckoule came in to pitch an inning of scoreless baseball. Curtis Goodwin connected for a pair of singles and Ender Gonzalez got a double and a single.
