
Black Bears Announce 2016 Schedule

West Virginia Black Bears News Release
The 2015 New York-Penn League Champions, the West Virginia Black Bears, the Class A Short Season Affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, have announced the schedule for the 2016 regular season, which opens on Friday, June 17th, 2016.
The Black Bears open the 2016 campaign in Mahoning Valley for a two-game series before returning to Morgantown for the home opener on Sunday, June 19th against Batavia. The Black Bears will be home for six weekends in 2016, including six Friday Fireworks matchups.
The Black Bears will celebrate July 4th with a three-game weekend series against Auburn from July 1-3, capping the weekend off with an Independence Day celebration on Sunday, July 3rd. The Black Bears are home for six games in June, 15 in July, 15 in August and two in September. They will cap off the season with a two-game series against Mahoning Valley on September 4th and 5th.
Their schedule features 76 games including 38 at Monongalia County Ballpark and 38 on the road. They will host nine New York-Penn League opponents in 2016 including Batavia (Marlins), State College (Cardinals), Mahoning Valley (Indians), Williamsport (Phillies), Vermont (Athletics), Auburn (Nationals), Tri-City (Astros), Connecticut (Tigers) and Lowell (Red Sox). The 2016 New York-Penn League All-Star Game will be hosted by the Tri-City Valleycats in Troy, NY on August 16th.
