TL1 Midland RockHounds

Black & Blue Division Title On The Line Monday

September 5, 2010 - Texas League (TL1)
Midland RockHounds News Release

It's only appropriate that the Texas League South second half pennant is on the line Monday at Citibank Ballpark. It's equally appropriate that the second half champ will be the only club with a .500 record in the half.

The South Division has been "beating the baseball stuffing out of one another" all season. The San Antonio Missions have the best record against their division rivals, going 49-42. Frisco is just 46-45, despite being one win away from sweeping both half-season pennants. The RockHounds are 44-47 and Corpus Christi 43-48 in the division. The quick arithmetic shows the best record just seven games over .500 and the worst just five under.

Frisco pushed the second half race to the last day of the regular season with a 10-5 win Sunday evening at Citibank Ballpark.

The RoughRiders broke out to leads of 5-0 and 8-3 before the RockHounds came back, drawing to within 5-3 and 8-5 before Frisco scored two more insurance runs in the ninth inning and put the game away.

Renny Osuna had three runs batted in for Frisco, with Emerson Frostad and Joey Butler each driving in a pair.

Val Majewski had a 4-RBI for the RockHounds with a pair of 2-run doubles. Jemile Weeks had three hits, including an RBI triple, and Jermaine Mitchell had his best game as a RockHound, going 2-for-5 and scoring twice.

The pennant race: Frisco and the RockHounds are now tied for the division lead with one game remaining, putting the second half pennant on the line Monday evening.

The RoughRiders and RockHounds will meet in the South Division Championship Series. Games 1 and 2 are at Frisco next Wednesday and Thursday, with the RockHounds hosting game 3 next Friday and game 4 (if necessary) next Saturday.

Home field in the potential 5th game of that series is still up for grabs. Monday's winner, as second half champion, will host game 5 of the division series.

The 2010 Texas League regular season concludes Monday.
