Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in the first game of a four-game series at Dunn Tire Park (7:05 p.m.). The Herd is 1-3 so far on this eight-game homestand following a series defeat to the Columbus Clippers. On the mound for the Herd today will be RHP Josh Tomlin. Tomlin was promoted from Single-A Kinston today and will be making his Triple-A debut with the Bisons. The Red Wings will counter with RHP Kevin Mulvey.
THE KID JUST WINS: RHP Josh Tomlin is in the midst of his third straight successful season to start his professional career. He was 5-1 with a 2.79ERA in 17 games and three starts with Single-A Kinston this year. Last year, Tomlin was a combined 11-4 with a 3.36ERA between Lake County and Kinston. He was a South Atlantic League All-Star, finishing 3rd in the Indians system in winning pct. (.733). In his first pro season, Tomlin was 8-2 with a 2.09ERA with Mahoning Valley. In his first 64 professional games, Tomlin is 24-7, good for a .774 winning percentage.
ROSTER MOVES: The Bisons also welcomed RHP J.D. Martin to the team today. Martin was promoted from Double-A Akron where he was 4-3 with a 4.64ERA in 15 games. He made a spot start for Buffalo on July 24, 2004, allowing six runs in five innings of work in Syracuse. The Cleveland Indians have recalled RHP Tom Mastny and RHP Jensen Lewis from the Bisons.
RBI GUY: OF Jason Cooper knocked in his 202nd run as a Bison, tying him for 3rd in the Modern Era with Russell Branyan. In his fifth year with the team, Cooper is in reach of Hall of Famer Bill Selby's RBI mark of 243. Yesterday was Cooper's 351st game in a Bisons uniform. He is one of only four players to play in 350 games with the team in the Modern Era (Tom Prince, 400, Selby, 370, Greg Tubbs, 364). Cooper also ranks 4th in doubles (70), T5th in triples (17) and 7th in home runs (46).
BISONS BITS: RHP Jeff Stevens pitched two perfect innings in his Triple-A debut yesterday. Stevens was promoted before yesterday's game...RHP Bubbie Buzachero has posted a 1.56ERA in his last 9 games (17.1IP, 3ER, 11K)...RHP Rick Bauer is second in the International League with 15 saves... INF Josh Barfield enters tonight's game with a seven-game hit streak. Since May 27, Barfield has hit .407 (11-27) with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and five runs scored.
