Louisville Bats News Release
Louisville, KY - Two home runs by Toledo Mud Hens right fielder Brent Clevlen in the first three innings helped the Toledo Mud Hens to a 7-2 victory over the Louisville Bats Tuesday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
After blasting a mammoth 450-foot, three-run homer in the first frame, Clevlen sent a two-run shot into right-center field in the third that made it 5-2, giving Toledo a lead they would keep for the duration of the game.
Louisville got some offense going early as Jolbert Cabrera hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first that scored Corey Patterson, who had three hits on the night. Cabrera, who had two hits, and has reached safely in 13 of his last 15 games, drove home his 25th run of the season, ranking him second among current Bats players.
In the bottom of the second, the Bats tightened the game to 3-2, thanks to Michael Griffin belting his first triple of the season into left-center field scoring Adam Rosales. Griffin, who earned his first career multi-hit game as a Louisville Bat, reached base three times on the evening.
The Bats offense went cold after the second inning, although they had several chances to narrow the margin. Over the course of the game, they stranded eight runners in scoring position and 11 base runners overall, as the team matched its season-high by earning eight walks.
Jackson Melian hit the Mud Hens' third home run of the night in the top of the sixth to make it a 6-2 game, while Toledo also added an insurance run in the ninth.
Matt Maloney (6-3, 4.52), who gave up all three homers, suffered the loss for the Bats, his first in his last six starts. He gave up six earned runs in six innings, while striking out eight and walking two.
Fernando Rodney (1-0, 0.00) got the win for Mud Hens, as he pitched two innings of scoreless middle relief.
The Bats and Mud Hens will play the second of their four-game series on Wednesday evening at 7:05PM at Louisville Slugger Field. Starting for Louisville will be LHP Adam Pettyjohn (6-1, 4.93), who threw seven shutout inning in his last start on May 30th, while RHP Yorman Bazardo (1-1, 5.00) will be on the hill for Toledo.
