
Bisons Notes 5/19/08 - Lehigh Valley At Buffalo (DH, Game 1: 5:30 p.m.)

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in a doubleheader as part of their four-game series at Dunn Tire Park (5:30 p.m.). These will be games 2 and 3 of the set as the Herd took the series opener with a 5-2 victory on Saturday. The Herd is 3-2 on an eight-game homestand that began with a split of a four-game series with Pawtucket. On the mound today in game 1 for Buffalo is RHP Brian Slocum. The righty leads the team with 33 strikeouts and has not allowed more than four runs in any start this season. LHP Jason Stanford will take the ball in game 2. Stanford is 1-2 with a 2.92ERA in five games since joining the Herd on April 24.
DOUBLEHEADERS: The Bisons have played three doubleheaders this year and two already this month. Buffalo lost a pair of games on April 6 in Norfolk and last Thursday against Pawtucket. The Herd took two from Charlotte on May 4. LHP Jason Stanford got a start in two of the three doubleheaders and was 1-1 with a 4.00ERA in those two games.
HOT HITTER: INF Ryan Mulhern's home run over the netting in left field on Saturday night extended his hit streak to eight consecutive games. The stretch began with a 2HR-game on May 8 in Syracuse with the first baseman hitting .483 since (15-31) During the hit streak, Mulhern has raised his average 75 points to .262 (3rd on team).
EIGHT IS GREAT: RHP Jeff Harris collected eight strikeouts in his seven-inning victory over the IronPigs on Saturday. It's the third time a Bisons pitcher has fanned eight batters in a game this year. The previous two were set by tonight's game one starter, RHP Brian Slocum. Slocum struck out eight on April 22 in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and repeated the feat on May 8 in Syracuse.
CHART CLIMBER: In game 2 tonight, LHP Jason Stanford will pass RHP Jeremy Guthrie for starts by a pitcher in the Bisons Modern Era. Stanford will be making his 68th start in a Bisons jersey in this his eighth consecutive season with the team. Stanford is already the Modern Era Strikeout King with 305 while his 26 wins are tied with Guthrie for fourth most.
ROSTER MOVE: INF Jordan Brown has been activated off the disabled list. Brown has been inactive since May 1. He began the season hitting .271 (26-96) with 11 doubles (led IL at time), 10RBI and 15 runs scored in his first 25 games.
