TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Bisons host the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in the first game of a two-game series at Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). The Herd defeated Lehigh Valley last night in a rain-shortened seven-inning game, 10-1. The Bisons will also play two against Pawtucket and four with the IronPigs during this eight-game homestand.
vs. YANKEES: In nine meetings this season, the Bisons are 5-4 against the Yankees. The last time Scranton/Wilkes-Barre played at Coca-Cola Field, May 24-May 27, the Yankees were the home team. The two teams split the four-game series. Since their return to the IL in 1998, Buffalo has an even .500 record against the Yankees (116-116).
BEATO: RHP PEDRO BEATO gets the spot start for the Bisons tonight. In 22 relief appearances with the Herd this season, the righty is 4-3 with a 2.38ERA and 26 strikeouts in 34.0 innings of work. In seven games with the Mets earlier this season, Beato went 0-0 with a 10.38ERA in 4.1 innings of work. It will be Beato's first start since 2009 with Double-A Bowie.
SILKY: INF JOSH SATIN had three more hits last night, including two doubles. Satin also scored four runs for the second time this season. The infielder has an eight-game hitting streak, during which he has averaged .500 (15-30) with six doubles, two home runs, nine RBI and two walks. Satin currently leads the International League with a .406 on-base percentage.
MVP: OF VALENTINO PASCUCCI hit his 15th home run of the season and had 3RBI in last night's contest. The home run was his 53rd as a Bison, breaking the tie with INF RICHIE SEXSON for fifth in the team's modern-era. The slugger now trails INF ALEX RAMIREZ by only four home runs for fourth. Pascucci continues to lead the Herd this season in home runs and RBI (57).
HALL: Prior to tonight's game, former Bisons OF BRIAN GILES and 1B RUSS MORMAN will be formally inducted into the Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame. Giles spent three seasons in Buffalo, batting .308 with 37 doubles, 37HR, and 138RBI in 219 games with the Herd. Morman also played three seasons with the Bisons, hitting .295 with 54 doubles, 42HR and 148RBI in 246 total games.
METS UPDATE : The Mets (54-58) defeated the Marlins, 6-1, yesterday from Citi Field. Former Bisons RHP R.A. DICKEY went the distance and allowed just five hits and struck out 10 batters to improve to 15-3 on the season. RHP MATT HARVEY takes the hill for New York tonight against the Atlanta Braves (7:10 p.m.).
