SOCK IT TO 'EM: The Rochester Red Wings tonight open a 2-game series against Pawtucket (Red Sox), continuing a 6-game homestand that started by losing 3 of 4 against Empire State (Yankees). Following this brief 2-game set, the Red Wings will hit the road for a 2-game series at Lehigh Valley (Phillies). They then return to Frontier Field on Tuesday for another 6-game homestand. That stay along Morrie Silver Way includes a 4-game series vs. Indianapolis (Pirates) and a 2-game set vs. Empire State.

a Tonight's and tomorrow's games with Pawtucket are being shown live on Time Warner Cable Sports (TWCS) Ch. 26.

a The Red Wings are 4 games into a stretch of playing 18 of their final 29 games at Frontier Field. All but 4 of Rochester's final 29 contests are against International League North Division rivals as well, the lone exception that series against Indianapolis.

ROSTER NEWS: Right-handed reliever Anthony Slama yesterday was reinstated from the 7-Day Disabled List, although due to travel woes never made it to Frontier Field for the game. He is expected to be in uniform tonight. Slama missed 58 games while on the DL with a right leg contusion, sustaining the injury when Norfolk's (Orioles) Miguel Tejada lined one off him June 6 at Frontier Field in the 6th inning.

SUMMER LOVIN', HAVING A BLAST: The Red Wings yesterday snapped a 3-game losing streak and a 5-game skid at Frontier Field. They are 5-3 in August and have won 8 of their last 11 games. The Wings have the best record in the IL beginning July 1 at 23-14. A look at the best records since the start of July:

Rank Team Record

1. 23-14

2. Columbus(Indians) 22-15

T3. Charlotte (White Sox) 20-16

Norfolk 20-16

5. Indianapolis 21-17

a The Red Wings are 40-29 since sitting a season-worst 10 games below .500 at 20-30 on May 28. Going back further, Rochester is 46-36 beginning May 15 and 51-43 beginning May 3.

WINNING WAYS: At 60-59, the Red Wings are off to their best 119-game start since 2007, when they were 65-54. FIELD DAY AT FRONTIER: The Red Wings yesterday won their 37th game at Frontier Field, which is their most in a season here since posting 46 victories in 2008. Rochester is 37-29 overall at Frontier in 2012, a record that includes a 4-4 mark as the "road" team against Empire State.

TIME TO GET SERIOUS: By losing 7 of their first 12 games against the PawSox, t he Red Wings would have to win each of the last 4 games against them to garner a season series victory. The Wings haven't won a season series against Pawtucket since 2009, when they went 10-6.

a The Red Wings have won 5 of their 7 completed season series outside of the IL North Division, including victories against Charlotte (5-3), Columbus (6-2), Norfolk (6-2), Louisville (6-2), and Toledo (8-0). a Rochester is 37-23 against teams outside the IL North overall, yet is just 23-36 within the division. The Wings currently have a losing record against each of the North rivals: Buffalo (4-5), Empire State (6-8), Lehigh Valley (5-6), Pawtucket (5-7), and Syracuse (3-10).

LOOKING UP: The Red Wings have scored a league-low 456 runs, 19 behind the closest team Lehigh Valley, which has 475. With 557, Pawtucket has scored 101 more runs than Rochester. The IL leader is Columbus, which has scored 587 runs, 131 more than the Red Wings.

HALL PASS: Prior to tonight's game with Pawtucket, former Red Wings righthander Dave Leonhard and former Rochester Tribe first baseman Fred Merkle will be inducted to the Red Wings Hall of Fame.
