Bisons Announce 2009 Game Times

The Buffalo Bisons, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, today announced their game times for the 2009 season. The 124th season of professional baseball in Buffalo will begin with a 3:05 p.m. first pitch on Thursday, April 9 against the Pawtucket Red Sox, the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

When the Bisons take the field for the first time in 2009 it will usher in a new era in the team's history. Buffalo signed a two-year player development contract with the New York Mets this off-season, aligning themselves with one of the marquee franchises in all of professional sports.

"The tradition of Opening Day at the ballpark is one of the great rituals in all of sports," said Mike Buczkowski, Vice President/General Manager of the Buffalo Bisons. "The Bisons organization has had an exciting off-season, which has only intensified our anticipation for the start of the 2009 season."

The Home Opener will start an eight-game homestand to begin the 2009 season. After four games against the Red Sox, the Bisons will welcome in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees for four games, April 13-16. The six games from Saturday, April 11 - Thursday, April 16 will be "Kids Week" with 1:05 p.m. game times for children off from local schools.

This season's Independence Eve Celebration with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus and the largest fireworks show of the year will be Friday, July 3 at 6:05 p.m. against the Rochester Red Wings. The team's annual School Kids game with morning start will be Monday, June 8 at 10:35 a.m. against the Indianapolis Indians. The Bisons will host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs for a special afternoon start on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. The team will hold Fan Appreciation Night on Wednesday, September 2 against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (7:05 p.m.) before ending the season with an afternoon start on Thursday, September 3 against the Yankees (1:05 p.m.).

The Bisons will use the customary 7:05 p.m. game time after the first month of the season. The team will have 1:05 p.m. afternoon starts on most Thursdays (Senior & Business Persons Day) and Sundays (Family Fun Sundays). The six fridaynightbash!® games in June, July and August will start at 7:35 p.m.

New Opponent in 2009

For the second straight season, the Bisons will have a new opponent in the International League. The Gwinnett Braves replace the Richmond Braves in the IL South Division. Buffalo will play the Braves eight times next season, with four home games scheduled May 12-15. Last season, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs joined the International League in the North Division.
