Mississippi Braves News Release
Mississippi welcomed the Montgomery Biscuits to town Saturday night for game one of a five-game series. The Braves took a 4-1 lead after six, but the Biscuits put up four runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth to defeat the Braves in front of 3,454 fans at Trustmark Park.
Mississippi's Dan Smith had one of his best outings of the season as he gave up only a run in 5.2 innings. Kris Medlen gave up three runs in his inning of work and Sung Ki Jung gave up five runs over two-thirds of an inning and fell to 1-2 on the year. Ryan Basner gave up a hit in 1.2 innings.
Montgomery's Jake McGee gave up four runs on six hits over 5.1 innings and Jason Cromer held the Braves in check over 1.2 innings and improved to 1-0 on the season. Brock Till gave up two runs in one-third of an inning and Roger Deago threw two-thirds scoreless. Steve Andrade threw a scoreless ninth to earn his second save of the year.
The Biscuits took the early lead by manufacturing a run in the third. Rashad Eldridge led off with a single, moved to second on a groundout, moved to third on a flyout and came in to score on a single by Chris Nowak.
The M-Braves tied the score in the fifth, but missed a golden opportunity to blow the game open. Matt Young drew a one-out walk and moved to third on a single by Jose Camarena. Young came in to score the game-tying run on a single by Paul Bennett. JC Holt then drew a walk to load the bases, but Javier Guzman grounded into an inning-ending double play to put an end to the rally. After five, the score was tied at one.
Mississippi succeeded in breaking the game open in the sixth. Jason Perry walked before Greg Creek and Reid Gorecki hit back-to-back singles to load the bases. Young's infield single plated Perry with the go-ahead run for the M-Braves. Bennett then came through with a single to left that scored Creek and Gorecki to give Mississippi a 4-1 lead.
The Biscuits answered in the top of the seventh. A walk, a single and three doubles led to four Montgomery runs in the seventh to give the Biscuits a 5-4 lead.
Montgomery wasn't done though as they put up four more runs in the eighth. A walk, two singles and two errors allowed the Biscuits to push their lead to 9-4.
The Braves came back with two runs in the eighth. Back-to-back doubles from Ka'aihue and Creek plated one run and a single from Matt Young plated the other. After eight, Montgomery led 9-6.
The Braves and Biscuits will play game two of this five-game set Sunday afternoon at 1:05 ct. The Braves will send righty James Parr (1-3, 5.82) to the hill while the Biscuits will counter with righty Wade Davis (3-2, 3.51).
