Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, Ala. - In a battle of bullpens, it was the BayBears who shined in a 7-5 victory over the Jacksonville Suns at Hank Aaron Stadium.

With both starters out of the game by the sixth inning, the Suns (16-20) were enjoying a 4-3 lead, but that changed once Brian Akin (1-3) entered the contest as John Hester knocked a two-run double to pull the BayBears (17-19) on top 5-4. Hester then scored on a base hit by Bryan Byrne while Rusty Ryal's seventh-inning home run put the BayBears up 7-4.

Jacksonville started the scoring in the second when Adam Godwin brought home Russell Mitchell with an RBI single. The BayBears snatched the advantage in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Brandon Burgess and a two-run base hit by starting pitcher Brooks Brown.

Lucas May's three-run blast in the third inning pushed the Suns back on top until Akin let it slip away in the sixth. Mario Alvarez started for the Suns and worked five-plus while allowing four runs. Vince Bongiovanni (1-1), A.J. Shappi and Reid Mahon (S, 8) worked five frames out of the pen without giving up an earned run.

The BayBears play on Mother's Day at Hank Aaron Stadium against the Jacksonville Suns (16-19) at 6:05 p.m. Lavender bases will be used during the ballgame and then auctioned off for charity. Call (251) 479-BEAR for tickets or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
