
Biscuits Silence Jaxx Offense Again Sunday

JACKSON, TN. (May 23, 2010) - The Diamond Jaxx (23-21) drop their second straight game to the Montgomery Biscuits (24-20) on Sunday afternoon at Pringles Park, 6-1. Alex Torres (5-2) beat the Jaxx for the second time this year and fired 6 2/3 innings Sunday. He allowed just one run and struck out seven. Taking the loss was Steve Bray (1-3) for the Jaxx. In Bray's last two starts he has allowed just one earned run over 13 innings. He is 0-2 in those starts and has only two runs of support in those starts. Bray allowed three unearned runs in the start Sunday.
Thanks to loss by Tennessee, the Jaxx remain in second place and just three games back of the Smokies in the Southern League's North Division. Huntsville is in third place and four games back.
Jeff Dominguez was 3-for-4 for the Jaxx and notched his first triple of the year while driving in the Jaxx only run. Jose Yepez finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and reached base three times. Carlos Triunfel doubled twice in the loss and ended the day 2-for-5. Leading the way for the Biscuits was Drew Anderson who was 3-for-3.
After two scoreless frames, Montgomery got three runs in the top of the third thanks in part to two Diamond Jaxx errors. Matt Sweeney doubled in JJ Furmaniak who reached on an error by Leury Bonilla in right to make it 1-0. Matt Fields brought in their second run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to center scoring Sweeney. John Matuila doubled in Chris Nowak to put the Biscuits on top 3-0.
Against Jaxx reliever Robert Rohrbough, Montgomery added two more in the sixth. Speedy leadoff man Emil Salem doubled in Matuila and Chris De La Cruz scored Drew Anderson on sacrifice fly increasing the edge to 5-0.
The Jaxx ended Montgomery's shutout against Torres in the bottom of the seventh. After a double by Jose Yepez, Jeff Dominguez tripled home Yepez to create a 5-1 score.
The scoring ended for the Biscuits in the eighth inning. De La Cruz singled in Salem to push the Montgomery lead and final score to 6-1.
The Jaxx will try to at least get a split of the six game series on Monday night at Pringles Park, with first pitch at 7:05. LHP Mauricio Robles (3-1, 3.06) will take the mound for West Tenn as fellow lefty David Newmann (1-1, 3.16) takes the hill for the Biscuits. Monday night, kids and seniors eat free with paid admission, presented by Nestle.
