HOOVER, Ala. - Bryan Shaw blanked the Birmingham Barons on just two hits through the first four innings on Sunday afternoon at Regions Park, but the Barons ended up tagging him for five runs on 12 hits in seven frames as they waltz to a 5-2 victory over the BayBears.

Jacob Rasner (1-2) was shaky early for the Barons (14-30) as he surrendered a couple unearned runs in the top of the second while the Birmingham bullpen was getting loose. Taylor Harbin reached on an error by shortstop Greg Paiml, then advanced to third on a bunt by Gerson Montilla. Jake Wald's sac fly brought Harbin home while Ollie Linton singled Montilla to the plate. Linton was 3-for-3, raising his team-leading average to .336

Birmingham stayed silent until the fifth when they struck Shaw (1-4) for five singles and three runs. The third hit of the inning by Dale Mollenhauer plated Paiml to put the Barons on the board. The BayBears (22-23) saw their lead slip away with a sac fly off the bat of Brent Morel to tie the game at 2-2. Christian Marrero then lined a single to center to bring home Mollenhauer, putting the Barons on top.

Birmingham added to their advantage in the sixth inning with Salvador Sanchez doubling and going to third on a sac bunt from Tyler Kuhn. Greg Paiml's grounder to second brought home Sanchez to put the Barons on top 4-2.

In the seventh, Jim Gallagher singled with one away and advanced to second on a groundout before coming home on another hit by Marrero.

The Baron bullpen did the job from there with Henry Mabee firing off two scoreless innings. Deunte Heath and Miguel Socolovich (S, 1) combined for a perfect eighth and ninth inning.

The BayBears return home on Wednesday night to battle the Mississippi Braves at 7:05. It's a Wine Down Wednesday with $1 Yellow Tail White & Red Wine available between 6 and 8 p.m. For tickets, which start at $5 for kids and $7 for adults, call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
