Montgomery Biscuits News Release
PENSACOLA, Flo. - The Biscuits (29-34) had every one of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (35-30) number as they manhandled them 10-5 Tuesday night at Admiral Fetterman Stadium. After a brief Pensacola lead Montgomery saw themselves score eight-unanswered and Garrett Hiott a triple away from hitting for the cycle.
Designated Hitter, Norel Gonzalez, powered the Blue Wahoos to a 2-0 lead after a no-doubt, two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. The homer would be Gonzalez' third in a Blue Wahoo uniform. The Biscuits were able to break the goose egg after a fielder's choice RBI that allowed short Greg Jones to reach first base and Roberto Alvarez to score. Former Blue Wahoo, Kameron Misner was able to drop a base hit in the gap in center field for a two-run RBI-double. Alexander Ovalles then connected on a line drive single for Montgomery to go up 4-2 with only one out.
Biscuits Garrett Hiott delivered another blow to the Blue Wahoos as he drove a two-run home run to right center off A.J. Ludwig in the top of the fifth. In the top of the seventh, Misner slapped an RBI-single to put Montgomery up 7-2, before immediately stealing second for his 13th stolen base of the season.
Pensacola was finally able to create offense after five scoreless innings when catcher Paul McIntosh scored after a throwing error by Tyler Frank and make it 8-3 Biscuits. Later in the inning, outfielder J.D. Orr hit a deep RBI-double to the warning track that brought third baseman Cobie Fletcher-Vance home and cut the lead to 8-4. Montgomery was gifted a free run by Nathan Witt after back-to-back wild pitches.
With momentum shifting the Blue Wahoos way, Montgomery got things back under control after two walks by Zack Leban with two outs. Jones then connected on an RBI-double to bring Brett Wisely and Tyler Frank home to go up 10-5. Johan Lopez came in to close out the game, but no save was recorded. Montgomery starts the second half of the season with a series opener win on the road and move to four-consecutive wins. Montgomery will have the dynamic duo of Caleb Sampen (1-2, 4.67) and Michael Mercado (2-3, 5.76) faces Eury Perez (2-1, 3.35) Wednesday at 6:35 PM CT.
