Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (51-44) and Mississippi Braves (58-38) closed out their six-game series with a doubleheader split, with Montgomery taking game one, 2-1, and the M-Braves taking game two, 5-3. The Biscuits lost five of the six games in the series.

Alex Valverde started game one of the doubleheader for the Biscuits, and the right-hander allowed a lead-off single to Justin Dean to begin the game, but then struck out the side in the top of the first.

Freddy Tarnok (2-2) was on the other side for Mississippi, and the righty kept the Biscuits off the board in the first, but allowed a two-out, two-run single to Xavier Edwards in the bottom of the second that put Montgomery ahead, 2-0.

Valverde racked up two more strikeouts in a scoreless top of the third to run his total to six. The right-hander would finish with eight strikeouts over four shutout innings before handing things over to Adrian De Horta (2-2), who worked a scoreless fifth.

Colby White came on for the Biscuits in the top of the sixth, and the former Mississippi State Bulldog allowed a sac fly to Jalen Miller after hitting Dean in the head with a pitch and uncorking a wild pitch, making it a 2-1 game. White closed things out in the seventh, however, striking out three overall for his first Biscuit save.

Easton McGee started the second game of the doubleheader for the Biscuits and struck out a pair in a one-two-three top of the first. Mississippi starter Alan Rangel worked a one-two-three bottom of the first, striking out Greg Jones.

The M-Braves would strike first in game two with back-to-back sac flies from Jefrey Ramos and Hendrik Clementina, who made it 2-0 Mississippi in the top of the second. Rangel then worked another one-two-three bottom of the second, striking out Niko Hulsizer.

Sean McLaughlin came on for Rangel and worked a scoreless third. Chris Gau then took over for McGee, and after working a scoreless top of the fourth, the right-hander surrendered a solo home run to Clementina to make it 3-0 Mississippi in the fifth.

The Biscuits would come back in the bottom of the sixth against Brooks Wilson (3-1) with an RBI-triple by Jonathan Aranda, and a game-tying two-run homer to left by Hulsizer to knot things up at three.

In the top of the seventh, Greyson Jenista fisted a two-run single into right-center field to hand Mississippi the lead back at 5-3. Daysbel Hernandez then pitched a one-two-three ninth to secure the save.

After an off day on Monday, the Biscuits will hit the road for a six-game series at the Birmingham Barons beginning on Tuesday, August 24 at 7:05 PM CT.

The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for a six-game series against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos starting on a Golden Biscuits Tuesday, on August 31 at 6:35 PM CT.

The rest of the series will include a Military Wednesday presented by WOW! on Wednesday, September 1; Board Game Night with a T-Shirt Giveaway on Thursday, September 2; HBCU Night on Friday, September 3; Take Me Out to the Ballgame Night with MAX Fireworks on Saturday, September 4; and Lil' Crumbs Kids Club presented by Go Fish Alabama & Bark in the Park on Sunday, September 5.
