Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY - The Montgomery Biscuits (2-2) split a doubleheader with the Chattanooga Lookouts (2-2) at Riverwalk Stadium Sunday. The Lookouts won an extra-innings affair in game one, 8-4, while the Biscuits blew out Chattanooga, 10-1, in the second game.
B.J. Szymanksi hit a grand slam off of Jeremy Flanagan in the top of the eighth inning to provide the runs the Lookouts needed in extra innings of a sloppy game one. The Biscuits had knotted the game in the seventh on a Ronnie Merrill sacrifice fly. The Biscuits committed two errors, costing starter James Houser, Jr. three unearned runs, while the Lookouts permitted an unearned run of their own and committed two errors.
Houser, who struck out five while allowing just two hits an no walks, got off the hook with late scoring, including a two-run homer by Chris Nowak.
In game two, the Biscuits' offensive display included 11 hits, with at least one by each starter. Three Biscuits -- John Jaso, Josh Asanovich and Rhyne Hughes -- homered, as they piled runs on Chattanooga starter Jstin Mallett and relievers Justin James and Ramon Ramirez.
Richard De Los Santos threw five shutout innings in the second game, allowing three hits and earning the win.
Wade Townsend threw the sixth inning, allowing a solo homer to Szymanski in his Double-A debut, and Jon Barratt pitched a scoreless seventh.
The rubber game of the series is Monday at 7:05 p.m., with Montgomery lefty Mike Wlodarczyk pitted against Chattanooga righty Sam LeCure.
